Most people love to keep pets in their homes and they are a good companion apart from that at times they can be affected by pests. These pets are affected by pests depending on the season and place that one lives. The pets will be affected by some pests such as the fleas which can be a big problem. Fleas can be a concern all year long in warmer climates. They are usually a concern for the pets and the family healthy. A resting time the pests can give someone together with their pets in the colder climates but it does not mean that they will not be back. Actually during the warmer season they will be back since they will always look for their next home during such times.
A lot of health concerns for the pets are caused by the fleas and they include; anemia, flea allergy dermatitis an many more. In pets such as dogs and cats flea allergy dermatitis is a very common disease which is associated with flea bites. In the pets the skin disease causes a lot of itching and scratching which in turn leads to hair loss. On the other hand anemia is also associated with flea bites. In an animal signs of anemia can be; weariness, pale skin, chills and shortness of breath. During peak seasons, a lasting impact towards the animals’ health and happiness can be achieved by avoiding the pet from full infestation from the fleas maybe. Noticeable skin problems such as hair loss, hot spots and rashes can be the signs that one’s pet has flea infestation. The saliva from fleas can cause if the pet suffers from serious allergic reactions. A common sign of fleas in any animal this usually is.
Flea dirt can result to black peppered spots on the fur or the skin of the animal. The flea dirt is a combination of the flea waste and blood that develops as the fleas bites and sucks blood out of the pets. If one passes a moist towel over the flea dirt it will leave a brownish red stain and therefore if a person is not sure whether the spots are flea dirt they can pass a moist towel over it. That an animal is infested with fleas the other sign is excessive chewing and scratching. The saliva that is secreted by fleas causes an itching sensation on the animals skin which results to a lot of scratching. Injuries can be caused on the skin of the animal by scratching hence wounds and also flea allergy dermatitis can be caused and other secondary bacterial infections because of the open wounds.
