Pets Tips for The Average Joe

Helping Your Dog Maintain Good Dental Health

Man and his dog share many similar things. Of the many similarities, one pressing concern about dogs that humans also suffer from are dental health issues. We have regular dentist visits to make sure our teeth and gums are of optimum health and condition. The same goes for our canine buddies. The fact is just like humans, dogs also need regular and proper tooth and gum care for the reason that without it, they could develop tooth and gum infections, which in turn could threaten their very existence.

Unfortunately, it’s a lot more challenging to deal with a dog’s dental health for the reason that they can’t tell you what’s bothering them. So, the best approach you can do as the owner is by way of prevention. Well, here are the three basic things you can do in order to ensure that your dog’s mouth will be healthy for the most part.

1 – Brush their teeth regularly.

If you can’t stand the idea of not being able to brush your teeth for several days, the same thing goes for dogs. We’re not saying you need to brush their teeth every single day because once or twice a week is already enough to ensure they have the ideal oral hygiene. Regardless of the type of diet your pet has, there always will be buildup of plaque and tartar, which in turn could lead to gum disease, if you don’t brush their teeth.

2 – Consider a switch to dry food.

Wet food is definitely a preference for most dogs. But the thing is while it is a lot tastier, it really does not help your dog promote good oral health. If you exclusively feed them with wet food, it’s in a way aiding in the fast accumulation of plaque and tartar in the teeth. As for dry food, the fact that the dog needs to break down and chew it more and with a lot of effort only means that there’s a good chance the current buildup of plaque and tartar will be scraped off the teeth. In other words, chewing on dry food can be considered as a form of cleaning the teeth.

3 – Give them healthy treats.

Finally, you may want to replace your typical dog treats with something that will help them improve their oral health, including dog dental chews which are specifically created to freshen your dog’s breath, clean the teeth, and even remove plaque and tartar.

Now you probably have realized that it really won’t bother you that much to take good care of your dog’s dental health since all you need to do is give them a little more love and care.
